Deacons Ministry

[mk_blockquote style=”line-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”14″ align=”left”]1Now during those days, when the disciples were increasing in number, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food. 2And the twelve called together the whole community of the disciples and said, ‘It is not right that we should neglect the word of God in order to wait at tables.* 3Therefore, friends,* select from among yourselves seven men of good standing, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this task, 4while we, for our part, will devote ourselves to prayer and to serving the word.’ 5What they said pleased the whole community, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, together with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. 6They had these men stand before the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.  7The word of God continued to spread; the number of the disciples increased greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith. – Acts 6:1-7[/mk_blockquote]

[mk_blockquote style=”line-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”14″ align=”left”]1I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon* of the church at Cenchreae, 2so that you may welcome her in the Lord as is fitting for the saints, and help her in whatever she may require from you, for she has been a benefactor of many and of myself as well. – Romans 16:1-2[/mk_blockquote]

[mk_blockquote style=”line-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”14″ align=”left”]Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind* in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth,* and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ – Genesis 1: 26[/mk_blockquote]

[mk_blockquote style=”line-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”14″ align=”left”]22 Set apart a tithe of all the yield of your seed that is brought in yearly from the field. 23 In the presence of the Lord your God, in the place that he will choose as a dwelling for his name, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, your wine, and your oil, as well as the firstlings of your herd and flock, so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always. – Deuteronomy 14: 22-23[/mk_blockquote]

[mk_blockquote style=”line-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”14″ align=”left”]6 Of course, there is great gain in godliness combined with contentment; 7 for we brought nothing into the world, so that* we can take nothing out of it; 8 but if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. 9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains. – 1 Timothy 6:6-10[/mk_blockquote]

[mk_blockquote style=”line-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”14″ align=”left”]18And others are those sown among the thorns: these are the ones who hear the word, 19but the cares of the world, and the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it yields nothing. 20And these are the ones sown on the good soil: they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.’ – Mark 4:18-20[/mk_blockquote]

Mission:  At FMBC, the Finance Ministry is given the important task of teaching the congregation about the theological principles of finance.  When established, these principles direct the paths of each individual and the congregation. The principles are: We are first and foremost a tithing community; We worship a living Lord who denies value and ethics, not money; We do not operate like a business, but as the counter-cultural community of Christ.

[mk_blockquote style=”line-style” font_family=”none” text_size=”14″ align=”left”]3Likewise, tell the older women to be reverent in behaviour, not to be slanderers or slaves to drink; they are to teach what is good, 4so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5to be self-controlled, chaste, good managers of the household, kind, being submissive to their husbands, so that the word of God may not be discredited. 6Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. 7Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity, 8and sound speech that cannot be censured; then any opponent will be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us. – Titus 2:3-8[/mk_blockquote]
