Reverend Dr. Caroll Broadfoot, Jr.

Dr. Caroll Broadfoot, Jr. was called as Senior Pastor at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 1975 while a student at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, CA.  He completed his Master of Divinity Degree, and later earned the Doctor of Ministry Degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Upon his arrival at FMBC, he was accompanied by his wife, Lillie, daughter, Beverly, and two sons, Bernie, and Timothy.  The Holy Spirit led him to continue to build upon the foundation laid by Friendship’s first pastor, Rev. H. J. Morris.   God blessed and the congregation grew from 350 to 1500 members.

Pastor H. J. Morris was a prophetic preacher, and the church was highly regarded in the community  for its emphasis upon Christian and secular education, equal rights for all citizens,  youth and children  ministries,  food pantry,  clothing ministry, and inspirational worship services.

Dr. Broadfoot and the members embraced a covenant with God that promoted “not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice” that contributed  to a new sanctuary, additional properties, and the construction of a community housing development named  “Friendship Estates”.  Friendship actively supported the Willie B. Atkins Project, and the Continental of Omega’s Boys and Girls Club founded by Philmore Graham.

The congregation embraced Dr. Lou Johnson as the first women to be licensed and ordained.   She was later called full-time as the Minister of Christian Education.  Dr. Lou helped to advance Friendship’s mission to be: “God’s People: Practicing God’s Principles for Victorious Living”.

Sister Broadfoot was very active in the church, and community as a Bible teacher, choir member, artist, and missionary to Haiti.  She directed the sanctuary choir in its first cantata, “The Night The Angels Sang”, by John Peterson, and directed the men for 15 consecutive years in a dramatic production of Michael Angelo’s painting of  “The Last Supper”.

Dr. Broadfoot retired after 21 years to join his wife in her passion for doing missionary work in Haiti.  The Lord has blessed them to plant and witness the miraculous growth of the Love and Light Mission in Gonaives, Haiti.

The mission’s vision is to fulfill the “Great Commission” of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:16-20).   To God Be All The Glory!
